  • Good Luck, La Russa! Media Attorney Says You'll Need It

Daily RFT's tech blogger Bill Streeter has already shared the news that Tony La Russa is suing Twitter over a fake Twit who was tweeting under "The Skipper's" likeness. (The Twitter account was suspended after the lawsuit was filed in the Superior Court of California.)La Russa is likely to face a shut-out on this one, according to Mark Sableman, a media lawyer at Thompson Coburn who represents Riverfront Times on legal issues. "Things like this don't happen so often in traditional print media,

  • When the Social Media Club throws a Par-Tay, You Better Believe there will be Panel Discussions, Baby!

The Social Media Club of St. Louis recently threw their relaunch party at Atomic Cowboy in the Grove. I didn't realize that there was a social media club in St. Louis so, for me, this might as well have been their launch party. It was actually a fairly impressive turnout, which either says the event organizers did a good job of getting the word out to their target audience, or there is a growing interest in social media in St. Louis. Probably a combination of both.

  • Upcoming St. Louis Internet/Tech/Social Media Events

Photo by: Bill Streeter I would really like to make this a weekly feature, but to do that and to make this feature as comprehensive as possible you need to help me out. So send your events to me via email at bill.streeter at gmail dot com.  So, to the best of my knowledge these are the upcoming Internet/Tech/Social Media Events in St. Louis for the next couple of weeks:

  • The Dive Bomber: Social Networking at Jodi T.'s

In the course of a week, I attended two meetings at bars concerning social networking. Bill Streeter documented the first one in his new tech blog. The second meeting was inadvertent."Did you know that Ellen's got over two million people following her on 'the Tweeter'?" a woman asked the man next to me at Jodi T.'s.From there, the conversation dipped into the omnipresence of media and how we'll be paying $6 a gallon for gas before the end of the summer. A box of Church's fried chicken sat in a

  • Lo-Fi St. Louis, HOME Nightclub Nominated for National Awards

Congratulations go out this Monday morning to HOME Nightclub and Bill Streeter of Lo-Fi St. Louis. The latter was nominated for "Best Reality Web Series" in the Streamy Awards, which honor -- what else? -- the best in web television. Lo-FI's competition is rather stiff, though: He's up against Penn Says (i.e., the show by Penn Jillette) and the Shatner Project, the web domain of the mighty William Shatner. HOME, on the other hand, was nominated for "Best New Club" in the Club World Awards, which

  • Phonocaptors Doing a Reunion Show at Deluxe, Friday, June 5

Oops, been sitting on this one: Yes, the rumors are true -- beloved local rockers the Phonocaptors are doing a reunion show on Friday, June 5, at Deluxe, with the Sex Robots. The band pre-dates my tenure in St. Louis, but judging by this clip below, I see why everyone is excited. Ran into head 'Captor Jason Hutto last weekend and once he sends me an email (COUGH), I'll provide more details. Here's a video shot by Bill Streeter:

  • Twitter, Schmitter -- Tony La Russa Sues Unreal!

Unreal has spent all of June breathlessly tracking the Tony La Russa v. Twitter brouhaha. OK, so we've actually just quickly spent the past few minutes skimming our columnist colleague Bill Streeter's two dispatches about the lawsuit, and also the one by Kristen Hinman. And even though those two are way more plugged in than your Luddite correspondent here, trust us, we're totally up to speed on this complex legal matter. So we knew it was only a matter of time until Tony L sued Riverfront Times!W

Photo by: Bill StreeterRev. Brian Dowel protests an unrelated event. A few weeks ago a local Twitter user, Rex Gradeless (Rex7) and non-local Twitterer Brandon Prebynski (Prebynski) of Indianapolis began promoting what they billed as the "St. Louis Largest Tweet-up Ever!" which was to happen last Friday at McGurk's in Soulard. Note: Daily RFT tech blogger Bill Streeter offers an addendum to our earlier post this morning about stltoday.com's Comment section.Stltoday.com poll shows that the majority of its readers don't like their own comments. You've likely heard by now that the Post-Dispatch last week polled its readership to find out what the paper should do about the comments on their site stltoday.com. Earlier this week over at the Daily RFT, Bill Streeter penned a great, thought-provoking post about several issues concerning digital music now. Among other things, he discusses the competing versions of a new digital album -- one dreamed up by Apple and the other dreamed up by the Big 4 major label axis of Sony, Warner Brothers, Universal and EMI -- and his theory that the Beatles catalog might finally being released to DSPs. Apple is reportedly holding a September 9 meeting -- agenda unknow
