  • Darius Miles: One Second Away From Costing Portland $18 Million

Darius Miles' bizarre labor dispute with the Portland Trailblazers is coming to a head. Last night he scored 13 points in 13 garbage time minutes as his new team, the Memphis Grizzlies, lost to the powerful Cleveland Cavaliers. As previously noted, if Miles steps on the court for one more second this season, Portland owes $18 million in luxury tax -- money they were probably hoping would go toward free agents in the off-season.At the Seattle Weekly, former RFT staffer Mike Seely (who profiled Mi

  • Did Darius Miles' Outrageous Ride Lead to Pot Bust?

Professional basketball player and the pride of the East Side, Darius Miles is free on bond today after police in Fairview Heights found marijuana in his 1996 Chevrolet Impala. The 27-year-old Miles was alone in his vehicle last night when he was pulled over for allegedly failing to use a turn signal. Miles, who played basketball for East St. Louis High School before being drafted into the NBA, was ticketed for driving with a suspended license. After the car was towed, police say a search of it

  • FoodWire: Skybox Now the Levee

Changes abound today! A post on the Urban St. Louis message board reveals that Skybox (800 North Third Street) -- the restaurant/nightclub owned by Nelly, Larry Hughes, Darius Miles and Marshall Faulk -- is now the Levee. (The linked post and its source call it At the Levee, but the phone message I heard said the Levee.) The phone number remains 314-241-5100. According to the recorded message, the Levee opens at 4 p.m. Tue.-Sun. and closes at 3 a.m. Fri.-Sat. No word on the closing time on other

  • FoodWire: New Restaurant with Familiar Name on Laclede's Landing

Splashy ad in this week's dead-tree RFT for a new restaurant and bar at 800 North 3rd Street on Laclede's Landing: King Louie's Courtyard Bar & Pizzeria. Yeah, they went there, taking the name of the late, lamented restaurant at 3800 Chouteau Avenue. At first, I was all, "Oh, no, they didn't!" But, upon reflection, I'm suprised it hadn't happened already. King Louie's is a pretty good name.At any rate, the new King Louie's Courtyard Bar & Pizzeria advertises pizza by the slice till 2 a.m.
