A pub crawl with a purpose. Santarchy 2008 requires that its participants dress up like Santa Claus, be able to withstand lip-chapping, straight-line winds and pace themselves during alcohol consumption for a day-long binge around St. Louis. Why the appeal? According to organizer Lohr Barkley, all the bad news about the economy and stressful holiday problems call for drinking and lots of it. The Santas also doled out tiny presents on Saturday at their stops in the Grove, University City, Downt

  • Show Review: Mr. Lif with Willie Evans and Plan B, June 4 at the Gramophone

Okay, so the crowd wasn't exactly what I expected at last night's Mr. Lif show. Given the political and sometimes "radical" nature of his music, I thought the audience would be more -- shall we say -- diverse. Nonetheless, Lif has a message in his music, and if 30-something hipsters (mostly white) are the ones listening, so be it.Photo: Egan O'KeefeMr. Lif at the Gramophone on Thursday night. • Show Review Photos: MSTRKRFT, Santigold, Trouble Andrew and Amanda Blank at the Pageant, Saturday, June 13

Around 1:10 a.m. or so, MSTRKRFT dropped bits of Daft Punk's "Da Funk" into its DJ set. The crowd - or what was left of it - at the Pageant naturally went apeshit, fueled as much by free Bacardi drinks as it was by the French techno-funk. And sure, at that hour, nothing is better than hearing an awesome dance jam.(View a slideshow of the concert.) Photo: Egan O'Keefe MSTRKRFT.
