  • The Long, Strange Thanksgiving Weekend: What Did You Do/See?

So, I started the long Thanksgiving weekend off with the Smashing Pumpkins show and ended it with a strained neck so bad that all I could do was lay on the couch and watch My So-Called Life on DVD. (A suggestion to imbibe some magnesium, found in black beans, spinach and coffee, three things I happened to have on hand at home, helped a wee bit. Yay home remedies.) In between, I caught a few local bands here and there. What did everyone else do/see? Anything blow your mind? *The Jovan Chorus, Fri

  • Review Setlist: Matthew Sweet at Blueberry Hill's Duck Room, Friday, June 19

Over the years Matthew Sweet has proven that all he really needs is a "room to rock in," which is what he laments in the second song ("Room to Rock") on his latest album, Sunshine Lies. On Friday night, St. Louis fans of the veteran songsmith and power-pop genius were lucky enough to see him and some of his long-time cohorts at one of best St. Louis rooms to rock in, period: Blueberry Hill's Duck Room. Sweet was joined by a stellar lineup that was the latest incarnation of fellow power-pop group

  • Interview: Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs

In June, power-pop darlings Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs released the second volume in their covers series. Sweet rocked the Duck Room in June -- and Hoffs is playing the Illinois State Fair this weekend in Springfield with the Bangles -
