  • Pajo Added to Yeah Yeah Yeahs Show

While double-checking info about Tuesday night's Yeah Yeah Yeahs show at the Pageant, I noticed that "Pajo" had been added to the openers, along with Grand Ole Party. Some Internet research verified that it is indeed a performance from David Pajo, a.k.a. the Slint co-founder and artist also known as Papa M. Pajo has been playing with the YYYs too (although no word if he's also with them tomorrow night, I'm assuming he is) and been busy recording a vinyl-only collection of Misfits covers, Scream

  • Vicky Pollard to Play Schlafly's Cod and Cask Festival

One of the coolest, quirkiest festivals in St. Louis is Schlafly's annual Cod and Cask Festival, which always features a random Icelandic act performing at the Tap Room. Last year's entertainment was Petur Ben; this year's honorary guest is a quintet called Vicky Pollard. (No, not the character on the U.K. sketch comedy show Little Britain -- although this is a moot point, because the band appears now to be called just Vicky.) Judging from YouTube clips, this is an act likely to be found skulkin

  • 2009 Bonnaroo Lineup Announced: Phish, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, David Byrne, Nine Inch Nails, Wilco, Al Green, Snoop Dogg, more!

Bonnaroo just announced its 2009 lineup -- and like Coachella, it looks pretty strong. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are headlining, while Phish is doing two(!) shows. Other notables include Elvis Costello (solo), Wilco, Nine Inch Nails, Al Green, Snoop Dogg, Mars Volta and a bunch more. See the entire lineup after the jump.Because the fest takes place in Tennessee, St. Louis always gets a fair amount of spillover from the event. Phish is already confirmed a few days after, but who els

  • Show Review: Yeah Yeah Yeahs with Grand Ole Party and Pajo at The Pageant, June 2

Photo: Todd OwyoungKaren O. of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs at the Pageant. More photos here.Yeah Yeah Yeahs' singer Karen O has crafted a persona as a shabby-chic fashion icon, a vulnerable diva, and some sort of female version of Iggy Pop. She has dated music video director Spike Jonze and is involved in the soundtrack to the highly anticipated film adaptation of Where the Wild Things Are. As the audience anxiously awaited the band's entrance last evening, their eagerness was twofold -- not only were 3

  • Tonight! Hot Cha Cha and the Natural Selection at Cicero's MP3 Fun

Bryon MillerHot Cha Cha, in the fleshCicero's hosts a riotous bill of epic proportions tonight. First up are long-distance-locals the Natural Selection. If you missed our feature a few weeks ago -- or missed the band's show then -- here's your chance to catch the act's funk-da-fied dance party again. Also on the bill is Cleveland's own Hot Cha Cha. The band makes the Yeah Yeah Yeahs look like a coffeehouse acoustic act. Says D.X. Ferris in last week's paper:The all-woman quartet's fuzzed-out

  • Download: Dragonette, "Easy" (Buffetlibre Remix)

The new album from UK electro-femmes Dragonette is in heavy rotation at A to Z HQ. Like neo-new wave peers Ladyhawke, Fixin' To Thrill cribs the best bits from the Gossip (danceable grooves), Yeah Yeah Yeahs (attitude) and Britney Spears (poppy electro). RIYL Robyn, Cyndi Lauper, all the acts mentioned above. My pals over at Buffetlibre passed along their discotheque-ready remix of new tune "Easy." Check it out -- maybe it'll lift the spirits on this impossibly rainy, grey day. MP3: Dragonett
