The 2007 Music Awards Showcase is finally upon us — well, or will be upon us on Sunday, June 3, starting at 2 p.m. in the Loop, to be exact. Most important, voting for the awards continues through the day of the showcase — both online and via paper ballots, which will be found at all the venues om June 3. After that, me and my minions will be tallying the votes, so that we can announce the winners at the Pageant on Tuesday, June 12.

In case you might be having trouble figuring out which bands to choose, A to Z went right to the source — the artists themselves — and asked them why they deserve your vote. We couldn't fit all of the responses in print, so check the RFT's new music blog, A to Z (blogs.riverfronttimes.com/atoz/) for the rest.

"According to recent studies, the average Monad has been known to consume, in one evening, enough whiskey to intoxicate a small village for a week. Monads are also thought to be invincible. Although this theory has yet to be scientifically proven, there are endless eyewitness accounts of their amazing feats — one of which involves a Snuffleupagus and a trampoline. Finally, you'll never see a Monad cry. They're not hard asses; they just don't do that wussy shit." — The Monads

"The 7 Shot Screamers have been nominated for the RFT music awards every year since they formed in 1999. However, they never won for the first six years, causing the press to dub them ‘the Susan Luccis of the Saint Louis Music Scene.' Then in 2006, the world caught up with the 7SS and finally voted them ‘Best Rockabilly/Garage.' Now what is interesting is that in less then a year 7SS have went from best rockabilly to best punk rock. I believe with all of my heart that 7SS would win even if they were voted Best Hip-Hop DJs. They have that strong of a presence and charisma, unlike any other band that has ever come out of Saint Louis. Now I'm just an Elvis-impersonating clown, and have no real reason to be sticking my nose where it doesn't belong. I'm just guessing 7SS wont be writing in about themselves, so I figured I'd take the liberty. HONK! HONK!" — Clownvis Presley — Annie Zaleski
