An Affair to Remember

Ms. Day wants to talk about Sundays for a minute. Because they are an official part of the weekend, she holds them in high esteem, or at least she tries to, but oftentimes, these days off really feel more like Monday eves. While desperately trying to soak up the relaxation, Day's thoughts invariably turn to the workweek ahead and all five days of its, well, workiness, and then she begins to feel tired, irritable and uptight, totally wasting a perfectly good half of her weekend and shortening her mental break away from the ol' cubicle. Now, she does know that keeping busy is the best way to combat all of this dreariness and prevent the creep of the Monday-morning blues, and this weekend, Food Outreach (www.foodoutreach.org) provides her with the perfect distraction: A Tasteful Affair 23. With this benefit sample-fest, we all can fully enjoy our Sunday, while dining on eats from more than 40 restaurants (such as Pickles Deli, Pappy's Smokehouse and Mike Shannon's Steaks & Seafood), browsing and bidding on all kinds of auction goodies (more than 300 items will be up for grabs) and truly helping out a most worthy cause — Food Outreach provides meals to people who have been diagnosed with HIV/AIDS or cancer and cannot afford nutritious food. A Tasteful Affair 23 is held at the Chase Park Plaza (212 North Kingshighway) from 2 to 5 p.m.; tickets cost $50 to $65.
