Ant Infestation

There is something disquieting about Michael DeForge's art. His new graphic novel, Ant Colony, does indeed chronicle the lives of ants living in an underground colony, but it does so in such a way that the ants are familiarly human and completely alien at the same time. The ants talk, and sing, and defend themselves from an attacking force of red ants, but their world is an off-kilter wonderland shot through with vivid colors and huge expanses of open space. It's a weird, unsettling book that draws you in completely. DeForge brings his Ant Colony Book Tour to Star Clipper (6392 Delmar Boulevard, University City; 314-725-9110 or www.starclipper.com) today from 4 to 6 p.m. He'll present a slideshow followed by a book signing. Admission is free, and copies of Ant Colony can be purchased onsite.
