St. Louis gets a lot of visitors. What’s striking is that so many of these people immediately single out our architecture for high praise. Maybe for those of us who live here day to day, year to year, it’s easy to overlook the built beauty right beneath our noses; out-of-towners notice. A new book, American City: St. Louis Architecture: Three Centuries of Classic Design, by William Zbaren and Robert Sharoff, underscores this plenitude of notable structures all over town. You can view more than 70 large-scale color images from the book in a photographic exhibition, American City: St. Louis Architecture, at the Ridgway Visitor Center at the Missouri Botanical Garden (4344 Shaw Boulevard; 314-577-5100 or www.mobot.org). The exhibit, which is included with regular garden admission ($4 to $8), is open daily through Sunday, August 21.
