Bach Rocks Your Holiday

Remember back in high school when you were in your favorite band's fan club? You waited by the mailbox for your birthday greeting, and maybe you even got good deals on concert tickets. Yep, that sure was great. The members of the Bach Society of Saint Louis, a group that could be considered Johann Sebastian Bach's local fan club, get no such privileges or gifts from the composer they admire — however, the ensemble enjoys sharing his music (and that of other greats) with us all the same. At the Christmas Candlelight Concert at 7:30 p.m., the Bach Society presents Bach's Sanctus and Osanna from the Mass in B Minor, two choruses from Handel's Messiah among other festive works. The "candlelight" part of the evening comes into play around midway through the performance when the chorus members surround the audience in Powell Symphony Hall (718 North Grand Boulevard) with candles and songs and encourage folks to sing along. Tickets for this glorious night out cost $20 to $65 — a good deal! — and are available through 314-534-1700 or www.bachsociety.org.
