Be the Cat in the Hat

The Mad Hatter character in Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland had at least one thing right: One should be behatted at any party worth attending. And we're not talking about ubiquitous baseball caps or keep-your-noggin-toasty stocking hats — we mean fantastic, fairy-tale fancy chapeaus, if you will. To prevent wasting yet another New Year's Eve party and spending it with your melon covered merely with hair (yawn), head to the Sci Fi Lounge at the ArtSpace at Crestwood Court (Watson and Sappington roads; 314-494-0853 or www.scifilounge.webs.com) for the Mad Hatter Party ($2). Held from noon to 6 p.m., this all-ages affair provides ample opportunity — and materials — to tap into that ol' right brain and get some creative hat-making juices flowing. Then, after your head is properly attired, feel free to avail yourself of quarter pinball machines and other fun activities at the lounge, and be confident that you will be comfortable and appropriately festive for stepping out on the town tonight. Happy new year, indeed.
