With post-Katrina sympathies still high and Crescent City love coming fast and furious in part thanks to David Simon's Treme, it's easy to forget that there is more to Louisiana music than sharp, blistering brass. Michael Doucet and his band BeauSoleil have been broadcasting authentic Cajun tunes from Lafayette, Louisiana, since 1975, and Doucet has served as a kind of large-hearted ambassador for the swampy, lyrical style of folk music ever since. Doucet fiddles and sings in both English and Cajun French, and the band touches on nimble Acadian folk, zydeco stompers and the jazz and blues that emanate from nearby New Orleans.
