Since opening Four Seasons Bakery four years ago, husband-and-wife duo Aaron and Agi Groff have had a hand in nearly every pastry that comes out of the ovens at their European-style neighborhood bakery. This is especially impressive considering the breadth of baked goods they offer regularly at their friendly, unassuming storefront located in a St. Charles strip mall. At the start of each day, every square inch of the counters and racks in the small space is occupied by rustic treats, cookies and fresh-baked breads. Clad in white aprons and wielding rolling pins, the Groffs will dust off the flour from their fingers to lovingly pack their completed goods to go. From plump French macarons and fruit-topped tarts to authentic German desserts and made-to-order cakes, St. Louisans have plenty of sweet excuses to make the short trek across the river to visit the Groffs. If you can't make the trip, look for their handiwork at farmers' markets and get hooked.
