RISE Coffee House should be appointed as the next special envoy to the Middle East, for it has managed to broker a détente between two endlessly warring factions: busy coeds looking for a quiet place to work and sleep-deprived parents in need of caffeine and a spot to let their little ones run amok. At RISE, the parties coexist in a lovely two-floor solution — the downstairs is a relatively kid-free zone, safe for chatting, working on a paper or simply lounging carefree in the eclectic vintage furniture. Upstairs, the scene is for the under-four set. Half of the room is reserved for tables and adult conversation, and the other half is a playroom, outfitted with books, toys, play mats and, most importantly, a gate. Harried moms and dads can sip their single-origin pour-overs sans the irritated glances when little Betsy decides to sing the theme song to Frozen at the top of her lungs. As if the kumbaya vibe weren't enough, RISE also serves delicious sustainable coffee from local roasters and sweet treats from Whisk: a Sustainable Bakeshop. With a stated goal of "coffee, peace and justice for all," RISE Coffee House is doing its part to make its little slice of the Grove a better place.
