A perfect Saturday morning of errand-running between April and October begins at the Ferguson Farmers' Market, a mile or so north of I-70 on South Florissant Road. There, next to the gazebo on the Ferguson Victorian Plaza, awaits the bounty picked just a few hours prior by at least a dozen local farmers. From sunflower shoots to black raspberries, zucchini to spring onions, it's both a familiar and exotic mix of fruits and vegetables, not to mention farm-fresh eggs, pecans and goat. Great Harvest Baking Company hawks its delicious all-natural loaves, and for the hungry-on-arrival, there are honey sticks and sno-cones, omelets and brats. Most market mornings (8 a.m. to noon) feature a theme Garlic Gala, All-American Pie Day, Pumpkin Bazaar as well as cooling mist machines during the hot summer months. There's more-than-ample parking adjacent to the plaza, and the farmers, quite frankly, couldn't appear cheerier surely just two of the many reasons the state Department of Agriculture twice named Ferguson "Missouri Farmers' Market of the Year."
