Exasperated by stupidity and the crass hypocrisy of the world around him, Lewis Black
is a modern-day Diogenes, roaming the country in search of honesty and maybe a little intelligence. Is it so much to ask? Apparently, yes, or he wouldn't be releasing his sixth album (Anticipation
) of comedic vitriol or going out on the road again to voice his displeasure with elected officials, weathermen and the whole lot of us. Actually, Black probably likes us; the shouting and the apoplexy, that's more bewilderment at humanity's collective failure to think things through than it is naked hostility. He's got a heart of gold under all that volume — he shouts to drown it out, but his compassion is evident if you listen carefully. Black brings his "Let Them Eat Cake" tour to the Fox Theatre (527 North Grand Boulevard; 314-534-1111 or www.fabulousfox.com
) at 8 p.m. tonight. Tickets are $44.50 to $74.50.
