In its early days, Black Lips was known as much for its crazy stage antics (vomiting, urination, making out) as it was for its music. Five albums into its career, though, it seems that the Atlanta, Georgia, band must take things seriously at least part of the time. The band's latest, 200 Million Thousand, conjures '50s-era post-adolescent confusion slowly filtered through a half-century of garage, punk and even psychedelic, reverb-laden rock & roll. The resulting sound is rough as hell and catchy as can be. In fact, although Black Rebel Motorcycle Club takes its name (and fashion cues) from Brando's The Wild One, Black Lips' music would most certainly trump them for the right to provide the soundtrack.
