Flowers are one of nature's great interior-decorating gifts. No matter your style, no matter the space — from modern lines and a muted color palette to old-school opulent fixtures and colors for days — a bunch of blossoms can perk up and beautify any room. They can help create a mood (rose petals on the bed), they can signify a festive occasion (say, a wedding), and they just might brighten up someone's day (a bouquet can do wonders for a dreary office). To celebrate buds and blooms and all things flowery, pay a visit to the Historic Samuel Cupples House & Gallery on Saint Louis University's campus (3673 West Pine Mall; 314-977-2666 or cupples.slu.edu
) during Rooms in Bloom
. For this free event, members of the St. Louis Florists Network come together to design arrangements to accentuate and accent each room throughout the nineteenth-century Romanesque mansion. The Silk Pajamas Jazz Combo welcomes visitors to the home during the Thursday preview reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.; the blooming continues from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday (May 14 to 17).
