Cave In

Wednesday, November 30; Creepy Crawl (412 North Tucker Boulevard)

It has to sort of suck to be Cave In. Along with their Boston brethren Converge, the band helped pioneer the metalcore genre in the late '90s and inadvertently influenced today's Warped Tour heartthrobs with groundbreaking discs like Beyond Hypothermia and Until Your Heart Stops. However, after taking a prog-rock detour with 2000's Jupiter and exploring a bigger rock sound with their subsequent major-label dud Antenna, the Cave In are back on their old label (Hydra Head) with a fresh, reinvigorated sound. Reconciling elements of seemingly disparate acts like Led Zeppelin and Radiohead with hardcore aggression (and the occasional guitar solo), the band's latest release, Perfect Pitch Black, is a superb amalgam of art and anger. Don't call this Cave In's comeback; call it their deathblow.
