Constellations

9 p.m. Wednesday, March 16. The Firebird, 2706 Olive Street.

The scary thing about the Constellations is that technically, you could label the Atlanta band "rap-rock," and it wouldn't be entirely inaccurate. On its major-label debut, Southern Gothic, the septet collaborates with Asher Roth and Cee-Lo Green; the album itself is produced by Ben H. Allen (P. Diddy, Lil' Kim). But don't think you're going to hear downtuned guitars and "gimme somethin' to break" lyrical insights. Instead, the Constellations comes across as the thinking-man's rap-rock band, fusing together electro-dance such as LCD Soundsystem with indie-friendly hip-hop à la Gnarls Barkley. (Think Prince covering the Flaming Lips — or vice versa — and you'll be close.) Frankly, we're most interested to see the band live to see just how they fit seven members on the stage of a relatively tiny club. May we suggest piggybacking up the band's auxiliary percussionists?
