Cup to Date

The Young Friends of the Missouri Botanical Garden (4344 Shaw Boulevard; www.mobot.org) want to see to it that when you hear the term "cupping," you no longer just associate it with the bruise-inducing therapy — you know, the one where heated-up cups are placed on people's backs (ewww!). Fortunately at the garden, "cupping" only refers to one thing: coffee. The lifeblood of most offices, coffee is a glorious beverage that gets many of us through our days, nay, lives. Now, we can all learn how to taste it properly during a cupping demonstration at MoBot, which is held in conjunction with The Birth of Coffee exhibit on display there. While attending this Young Friends' event, you can also check out that coffee photo show and have a look at the "Storybook Classics" orchid exhibition. The night of brew and ballyhoo runs from 6 to 8 p.m. and is free — quite a deal! — but reservations are required; call 314-577-9432 to save your spot.
