It must get slightly frustrating being Efrem Schulz. The singer has been fronting Orange County metalcore unit Death by Stereo since 1996, and its revolving-door lineup is legendary: Of the band's current configuration, only guitarist Dan Palmer has been with the group for more than a year or two. (He's a ten-year vet.) And though constantly changing the locks on the practice space to keep ex-members out could get tiresome, Schulz instead channels his rage through his caterwauling vocals — operatic one minute, drill-instructor barking the next. The band's most recent album, 2009's Death Is My Only Friend, was released by System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian's Serjical Strike label, but the odd pairing did nothing to temper the band's aggression — just take one listen to "Who Should Die? You Should Die" or "D.B.S.F.U." for proof.
