Beach volleyball may be the most perfect of summer sports: It's normally played near open water, it's fairly low-impact and it requires a modicum of clothing. So it feels like a slap in the face to have the Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) bring its Hot Winter Nights tour to St. Louis in the midst of a harsh, face-chapping winter. Do these beach-bodies just want to gloat that they make their living wearing board shorts and smelling of Coppertone while doing the whole "bump/set/spike" routine? Swallow your rage for a moment and recognize that these players are kings and queens of the sport — in fact, 2008 Olympic gold medalist Phil Dalhausser will be among the pros competing on the 200-tons-of-sand court constructed inside the Scottrade Center (1401 Clark Avenue; 314-241-1888 or www.scottradecenter.com). The games begin at 7:30 p.m., and tickets are $16.50 to $61.50.
