Drunk on Xmas Spirits

Here's an interesting problem. A friend — let's call him "Faul" — absolutely hates Christmas and all it stands for. And yet, Faul's lady companion — for consistency's sake, we'll go with "Wanice" — greatly enjoys everything associated with the season. How to keep Faul and Wanice happy? Let's ship 'em off to the Kristkindl Markt at the Hermannhof Festhalle (237 East First Street, Hermann; 573-486-5199 or www.hermannhof.com). From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday (December 8 and 9; admission is free both days), a good ol' German Christmas experience breaks out, with handcrafted gifts of all kinds for sale, holiday decorations, and demonstrations of such arts as gingerbread-house construction and Scherenschnitte (German paper-cutting) to satisfy Wanice, plus sausage and gluhwein to occupy Faul. Drive home with the windows open, Darlin' — a Christmas breeze is blowing up from the south!
