It may only be mid-September, but it's never too early to begin rounding into Oktoberfest shape. Tonight the Stable hosts an Oktoberfest German Beer Dinner
, which offers four courses of traditional German fare paired with appropriate brews. The evening begins with a beer reception that features your choice of Amalgamated Brewing Companys beers plus sausage, wurst and German cheeses -- sausage should star as an appetizer far more often as far as were concerned. Also on the menu are sauerkraut soup, Rinderrouladen
(a beef roll-up with mustard, bacon and a pickle -- its divine) and Black Forest cake. Oh, and dont forget the beers -- in addition to a Helles and Oktoberfest, the third course (chicken goulash) is served with a Zoigl, the hard-to-find Franconian variety of Kellerbier. Your evening begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Stable (1821 Cherokee Street; 314-771-8500 or www.thestablestl.com
). Reservations are required (make 'em before Thursday, September 15), and the cost is $45 per person (includes tax and gratuity).
