Eugene Onegin

Eugene Onegin is one of those pre-revolutionary Russian men for whom life is easy, but living is still a tedious chore. When Onegin becomes entangled with two sisters, he enrages his old friend Lensky, who is engaged to one of them — and a duel is arranged between the former friends. Can Onegin apologize for offending his only friend, or will he allow the duel to proceed to its undoubtedly tragic end? Pyotr Tchaikovsky's lyric opera Eugene Onegin isn't a happy story, but it is very Russian.
