One of the nicest surprises Ms. Day had last summer happened when she met a friend at the Whitaker Music Festival
. See, Day left straight from the office, sans
food and wine, and was planning on just purchasing dinner and drinks from the vendors at the Missouri Botanical Garden (4344 Shaw Boulevard; 314-577-9400 or www.mobot.org
). But lo and behold, this kind friend had prepared a wonderful spread of fancy cheeses, fresh fruits, garlicky artichoke dip, whole-grain crackers, pinot noir and homemade chocolate-chip cookies it was a picnic fit for a queen! Ms. Day dined and laughed and drank while she enjoyed good company and good music during this night of the summer concert series. Ahhh, what a lovely time!
So why don't you make someone feel special with a catered trip to the Whitaker? Jazz pianist Peter Martin starts off the series Wednesday, June 7, at 7:30 p.m. Admission to the fest is free, and if you're busy tonight (or know lots of people worthy of surprises), the concerts continue on Wednesday evenings through August 9.
