Fashionably Healthy

Waifs abound in the world of fashion, and the "clothes hangers" of the industry are only getting thinner. And yet the average size of an American woman ranges from a 10 to a 14. The soon-to-be-nonprofit organization Escape to Reality wants to present a healthier image for women while also raising funds to help women with eating disorders receive treatment. The solution? the Destination: Design! Fashion Show. Nine designers from the St. Louis area will have their fashions strutted down the runway by models of different ages, sizes and ethnicities, and Dr. Laura Huff, the director of the eating disorder program at the Saint Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute, will speak on anorexia and bulimia. Tickets start at $20 for standing-room only, and range up to $150 for front-row seating; all of the money raised goes to a scholarship program that pays for treatment for young women who are trying to get healthy. Destination: Design! takes place in the Wool Ballroom, located in Saint Louis University's Busch Student Center (20 North Grand Boulevard). Front-row ticket holders can arrive at 6 p.m. for a pre-show reception with light appetizers, and doors open at 7 p.m. for everyone else. For more information, visit www.etrfoundation.com.
