Food Will Appear

As if out of nowhere

Magicians are tricky all right: hiding rabbits in the most bizarre places and sawing strangers in half, not to mention all those disappearing acts. But despite the bad rap some Hollywood magicians have given the craft of magic (why they can't stay drowned alive once in a while, we'll never know), there are some folks in capes who want to help their communities and generate a few smiles while they're at it — instead of just making your dollars disappear. The local ring of the International Brotherhood of Magicians (IBM) is just such a group of civic-minded people, so join these tricksters for their annual Magic Stage Contest at 3 p.m. at the West County Family YMCA theater (16464 Burkhardt Place, Chesterfield). Bring a canned-food item for admission, which will be donated to a local food pantry, and then prepare to be amazed as these magicians compete to perform the most awe-inspiring tricks and illusions. For more information about the contest, call 314-791-9108 or visit www.ibmring1.com.
