Gift in a Box

Presents go artsy

As one might expect, Ms. Day is an exceptional gift-wrapper. She ties fluffy bows with the greatest of ease, she smoothes and tapes glittery paper seamlessly, she always hand-makes and personalizes her gift tags, and, yes, she's aware that she's pretty much perfect. But sometimes she struggles with what to put inside these gorgeous packages, so she tries to shop at events like the annual Big Red Box Show & Sale, held this weekend at the Foundry Art Centre (520 North Main Center, St. Charles; 636-255-0270). On Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (November 21 and 22), Day will browse items like stunning wood pieces by Vic Barr, pottery creations by Pat Timmerberg (pictured), funky creatures by Joseph Farmer and additional handmade artsy works from other Best of Missouri Hands artists (www.bestofmissourihands.com). Everyone on her gift list will certainly be happy to find any of these items underneath that glittery paper! Admission to the Big Red Box event is free, and refreshments and music will aid Day in her shopping travails. (And for those who are a little less than perfect when it comes to package presentation, your gifts can be wrapped — free of charge!)
