Guitar Masters

Old, new, borrowed and true

The Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra's concert series at the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts (3716 Washington Boulevard; 314-754-1850 or www.pulitzerarts.org) is consistently inspired in both its musical choices and its inventiveness. The Ideal (Dis-) Placements series may set a new standard, however. In honor of the old masters' paintings that comprise the Pulitzer's current exhibit, David Robertson has chosen works by two masters of the guitar — jazz musician Pat Metheny and rock god Jimi Hendrix. Pretty good, eh? Guitarist Jason Vieaux will perform his own arrangement of Metheny's music, Five Songs in the Form of a Baroque Suite, as well as Steven Mackey's arrangement of some classic Hendrix jams. In between these two titans looms Mackey's own Physical Property. Concerts take place at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday (November 11 and 12), and tickets are $20.
