Talk all you want about how Bill Clinton and Howard Dean are fighting against right-wing talking heads: One-man folk-punk band Hamell on Trial is fighting the good fight one song at a time. Just don't expect him to play fair. One song in particular — "Coulter's Snatch," which wonders aloud about conservative commentator Ann Coulter's personal hygiene — accomplishes this with Ed Hamell's trademark venom and low-class wit. In an interview with Harp magazine this spring, Hamell explained his inspiration: "You wanna take the low road? Well, fuck it — somebody's gotta take the lower road. These guys are playing dirty pool. If they're saying rotten shit, then you better learn how to say rotten shit." Pure poetry.
