When Ms. Day was young, she would daydream about the worlds she drew, worlds in which pegasuses (pegasi?) and unicorns roamed free and rainbows jumped from cloud to cloud. This was a magical universe where it was always summer, and flowers were continually in bloom. Ah, what a lovely place! But sadly, even then Little Miss Day knew that this enchanted kingdom wasn't real and, more important, that these wonderful horse-like creatures didn't exist, yet she continued to hold out hope that one day she would get to see animals almost as beautiful and that day has arrived! The Lipizzaner Stallions of the Spanish Riding School of Vienna (www.spanishridingschool.com) perform at the Savvis Center (South 14th Street and Clark Avenue) at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday (November 12 and 13)! This famous school features graceful all-white horsies that are the only true dressage "artists" (if you will) left in the world. Ms. Day has been saving for a roundtrip plane ticket to Vienna ever since these stallions last danced in the States more than fifteen years ago, so now she'll have more than enough money to buy several of the $32-to-$152 tickets from Ticketmaster (314-241-1888 or www.ticketmaster.com). Hooray! -- Ms. Day
Serve with a purpose
Do you dream of serving and setting and digging all the live-long day? Then you are ready for the twelfth annual Volleyball Marathon at Canaan Baptist Church (5409 Baumgartner Road). Since 1994, the 24-hour volleyball marathon has raised $70,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Missouri Baptist Children's Home. The event planners hope to raise $10,000 more by raising the nets in the church gym this year, and all are welcome to participate and donate. Volley for the serve at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, November 11. To get a spot in the rotation, contact Canaan Baptist Church at 314-487-1730, extension 33. -- Anna Teekell
Hey, there's a really sensitive singer/songwriter playing at this club where there'll be a bunch of sentimental types hanging around. Wanna go? You don't? You must be a red-blooded Midwesterner. Be proud. You love baseball and Budweiser and Bass Pro Shops. You enjoy NASCAR, speedboats and, by gosh, motorcycle racing. In fact, that indoor motocross stuff really yanks your crank, what with all the fast-paced action and huge jumps. So we'll see you at the BooKoo Arenacross Championship Series this weekend (Friday through Sunday, November 11 through 13) at the Family Arena (2002 Arena Parkway, St. Charles; www.familyarena.com). Professionals compete on Friday and Saturday, while Sunday is for the kids and amateurs; doors open at 6:30 p.m. the first two nights and at 11 a.m. Sunday, right after you hand over the $7-to-$24 ticket you purchased by calling 314-534-1111 or visiting www.metrotix.com. -- Jedidiah Ayres
