After a quarter-century of tours and Jellicle Balls, it's hard to believe that there could be anyone in America who hasn't heard of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats
. But then you remember that most kids these days are younger than 25. And if you have a kid, you know that this week off from school can be trying for both parent and child. Lots of time to fill, not a lot to do. So, how 'bout a trip to the theater for a first taste of Theatre? Cats
takes the Fox Theatre (527 North Grand Boulevard; www.fabulousfox.com
or 314-534-1111) stage at 7:30 p.m., and it's a pretty good first musical. The revue format is easy to follow, there's plenty of spectacle and song, and singin' cats are a proven crowd-pleaser. Throw in the free face-painting for kids provided by the Fox staff in the lobby one hour before showtime, and you have an exciting big night out for you and the kids. Tickets are $18 to $52, and the show continues through Sunday, December 31.
