History in the Making

The Modern American Dance Company, known as MADCO, was founded in 1976 as the Mid America Dance Company. Throughout the years the world has changed, the world of dance has changed, and the name of the dance company has obviously changed — but its commitment to local dancers has been unwavering. Stacy West took the helm of MADCO in 1994, and in 2007 the group became the professional dance company in residence at the Touhill Performing Arts Center on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road). It is there that MADCO presents its next concerts, happening at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday (March 19 and 20). Get a feel for this company's powerful style and see what has made the group a success for all of these years when Todd Weeks, MADCO's associate artistic director, presents a new work, and some older pieces are shared again with new audiences. Tickets to the concerts cost $20; make a purchase by calling 314-516-4949 or visiting www.touhill.org.
