When a man competes for a Mr. Leather title, looking good in a pair of leather pants so tight you can't even slip a whisper down the back is not enough. (It's a good start, though.) Mr. Leather has to stand up as representative for an entire community, and that means presenting a positive image, being knowledgeable about the history of leather culture, acting as an enthusiastic fundraiser for numerous affiliated events and generally being a servant to the leather community at large. It takes a special breed of man to win the leather sash, no doubt. The best leathermen from thirteen states converge on St. Louis this weekend for the Mr. Midwest Leather Contest, and the eventual winner will head to Chicago's International Mr. Leather competition in 2011. The competition proper begins at 11 p.m. tonight at the Bad Dog Bar and Grill (3960 Chouteau Avenue; www.mrmidwestleather.com). Admission is $10, and that includes a coupon for a free draft or well drink.
