Ingrid Michaelson

7 p.m. Wednesday, July 2. The Pageant, 6161 Delmar Boulevard

Don't blame Ingrid Michaelson for her music's ubiquity in maudlin television dramas and sweater-hawking commercials. The New York singer-songwriter made her name the way so many young singers with a knack for palatable pop have in these Web 2.0 days do — through thousands of MySpace friends and a few well-placed tunes tucked into mass-media outlets. "The Way I Am" burrowed its way into our subconscious through an Old Navy commercial last fall, and several of Michaelson's songs have been featured on Grey's Anatomy. Last year's Girls and Boys collects the elements that make her so attractive to professional tastemakers — her honeyed, oft-shuddering voice can stretch and expand to fit the tasteful, mostly acoustic trappings of her songs, and her lyrics traipse the path between youthful daydreams and grown-up insecurities.
