It Was a Dark and Stormy Night

First Run Theatre opens 2008 with a perfect way to wrap up the holiday season: Steve Pokin's Room at the Inn. It's Christmas Eve, and a terrible snowstorm rages outside a St. Peters homeless shelter. Inside, the shelter's two volunteers attempt to aid the 40 guests, including a single mom and her son (the auspiciously named Clark Kent), a solitary woman who can't (or won't) speak, a buffoon with a teddy bear, a stranded pizza delivery boy, and an enigmatic young man who may be more than he appears. It's going to be a long night, and the group may need a bit of a Christmas miracle to see it through safely. First Run Theatre presents Room at the Inn at 8 p.m. Thursday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday (January 10 through 20) at DeSmet Jesuit High School (233 North New Ballas Road, Creve Coeur; www.firstruntheatre.com). Tickets are $8 to $12.
Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays. Starts: Jan. 10. Continues through Jan. 20, 2008
