Since its inception in 1977, the Japanese Festival has been one of the Missouri Botanical Garden's (4344 Shaw Boulevard) signature -- and most anticipated -- annual events, celebrating the history and culture of the Japanese people. Produced in part with the Japanese Activities Committee, the festival feature live music, cooking demonstrations, storytelling, children's activities, martial arts and sumo demonstrations, a kimono fashion show and much, much more. This year's festival marks the centennial of the garden's cherry blossom trees, a gift from Japan to the United States in 1912. The three-day festival begins Saturday, September 1, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and continues through Monday, September 3. Admission to the festival ranges from $10 to $15.
