He's also released a couple of recordings as a leader on the Telarc label: his 1996 eponymous debut and 1998's Maybe in a Dream. Davenport is no longer associated with Telarc, but another label deal may be on the horizon. "I did a showcase performance at the Algonquin Room in New York City a while back," Davenport says. "It was amazing to play in such a great room to begin with, but there were some execs from major labels there, too. I can't really say too much about it now, but we'll see what happens."
You can count on hearing a large helping of Davenport's distinctive, laid-back vocal style at his sets, and, backed by longtime associates Glen Patscha on piano and bassist Neal Caine (another U. City native), Davenport will have plenty of room to stretch out and showcase his fine horn playing.
