Joey's A Great Hoofer

One of the most awe-inspiring and moving live performances this guy has ever seen was War Horse at Lincoln Center in 2011. Now St. Louis gets to experience the exhilaration of this incomparable stage production. The play, adapted by Nick Stafford from Michael Morpurgo's novel of the same name, recounts the odyssey of a beloved farm horse named Joey. When World War I erupts, Joey is shipped from his English country home across the Channel to France, where he becomes a cavalry mount on the front lines. All the extraordinarily natural, convincing movement of Joey and the other horses is solely conveyed by the life-size puppets of South Africa's Handspring Puppet Company. War Horse is a drama for all ages, and if you think yourself too old or worldly-wise to be moved by a story about an animal and the people who love him, it's time to defrost your heart. War Horse is performed Tuesday through Sunday (March 13 through 24) at the Fox Theatre (527 North Grand Boulevard; 314-534-1768 or www.fabulousfox.com). Tickets are $15 to $74.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: March 13. Continues through March 24, 2013
