If VH1's "You Oughta Know" snippets have taught us anything, KT Tunstall considers herself an individual — the pioneer of "Scottish girly acoustic folk-rock stomp" (which, admittedly, is probably not on your iTunes' list o' genres). But strip away the Scottish by heritage, girly by gender and acoustic by choice, and what remains is a woman trying to find a stompable middle ground between angsty Alanis and prudent Poe. With grainy, lilting vocals similar to those of Nelly Furtado, Tunstall may not be a musical revolutionary, but she's certainly distinctive in the dainty diva genre. Particularly noteworthy is her mastering of the loop pedal (one she has nicknamed "Wee Bastard"), which allows this songstress to be her own band — effectively making any ground her stomping ground.
