Life's A Glace 

The craft of carving and sculpting ice has given the world much, from centerpieces and ice luges at upper-crust affairs to Snow Miser's icicle cane. Marvel at the technique of local ice carvers at the Fete de Glace today from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on North Main Street (100 North Main Street) in St. Charles. More than a dozen ice carvers line two blocks, cutting 260-pound blocks of ice with tools varying from chain saws and grinders to hot irons and cold spray. A team competition kicks off the festival from 9:30 a.m. to noon; individual ice-carving follows from 12:30 to 3 p.m., with judging and professional and people's choice award ceremonies wrapping up the festival at 3:30 p.m. Food, drink and winter crafts will also be available at this family-friendly festival.
