Local Motion: Full Day Affair

College features prominently in the life of Full Day Affair. For starters, co-vocalists Darrell Nienhaus and Scott Smith (the former a jazz-combo veteran, the latter classically trained) formed the band while attending Truman State University. (TSU music major Jake Coon later joined as a turntablist/keyboardist.) But, more important, Full Day Affair's debut EP, Approved (which was released on local label Shock City Records), assimilates the best elements of university-approved artists: the plaintive vocal harmonies of Guster, John Mayer's creative-writing-class mash notes and Jack Johnson's laissez-faire beach-bum riffs.
