Love Is A Thief in the Night

Beane is a man who has nothing; his almost-barren apartment is grim and drab, his job is meaningless, and he has no human contact, outside of that with his fiercely successful businesswoman sister, Joan, and her husband, Harry. Something Beane does have is a burglar — a female burglar he discovers in his flat one evening, frustrated in her attempt to burgle a man who doesn't even have a fork (Beane doesn't trust them). Molly — the burglar — is an amazing and unexpected development in Beane's shut-down life, one all the more remarkable because she returns willingly to be with him. And suddenly, Beane's life expands to include the wonders of women, and turkey sandwiches and love, and his newfound wealth overflows into Joan and Harry's lives as well. John Kolvenbach's Love Song is an offbeat adventure about the magic and peril of love and how it can be suspiciously addictive and life-changing. St. Louis Actors' Studio continues its season of "Love and Honor" with Love Song, performed at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday (January 8 through 24) at the Gaslight Theater (358 North Boyle Avenue; 314-458-2978 or Tickets are $18 to $25.
