Outlaw playwright, poet and novelist Jean Genet’s notorious sadomasochistic drama of dominance and servitude, The Maids
, has arrived and is here to clean house. In the play, overseen by Upstream Theater guest director Wieslaw Górski, housemaids Solange and Claire while away the hours ritualistically role-playing both sides of their live-in power divide. By day, the two are perfect servants, but their nights belong to a twisted game of dress up, where they enact elaborate fantasies -- rehearsing the murder of Madame, the mistress of the house. The Maids
put the M in S&M tonight at 8 p.m. at the Kranzberg Arts Center (501 North Grand Boulevard; 314-289-1523). The show goes on Thursday through Sunday up until Sunday, March 4, with varying showtimes. Tickets are $15 to $25.
Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: Feb. 18. Continues through March 4, 2012
