Music and Dance In the Air

Some friendly advice to the powers that be: The Grand Center Dancing in the Street Festival needs an expanded name to accurately describe all that happens during the daylong outdoor dance extravaganza. Sure, there's participatory dancing in the street, thanks to the Grand Center Conga Line, which starts at 6:20 p.m. on North Grand Boulevard, and the 7 p.m. DJ Raven Fox dance party, which closes out the fest. But there's also dancing on three stages throughout the arts district (starting at 1 p.m. and centering around North Grand and Washington boulevards), and there's even aerial dancing on the side of the Continental Life building (!) at 4 and 6:30 p.m., thanks to the amazing Bandaloop vertical dance troupe. Maybe Dancing In, Around and Above the Street would work as a festival name -- just sayin'. Anyway, to get in on the diverse movement, ah, movement and to see many, many regional dance troupes hit the stages -- including Saint Louis Ballet, the Metro Dance Company, the Aalim Dance Company, the COCA Hip-Hop Crew and more -- get down to Grand Center and wear your own dancing shoes. Admission to the festival is free, and a full schedule can be found at www.grandcenter.org.
