One Hour, Three Movies, A Million Laughs

It's ba-a-a-c-k! Magic Smoking Monkey folds, spindles and mutilates J.R.R. (the extra "R" is for "Rock Star") Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy into a one-hour, slam-bang, live stageshow. The special effects cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $6, the costuming is straight out of LARPer's garage sale and the performances are some of the greatest sustained satire you'll ever see. John Wolbers performs Frodo as an amazingly fey dunderhead (Wolbers also contributed the script), Roger Erb is bizarrely effective as a jive-talking Gollum and Aaron Orion Baker transforms the role of Gandalf into that of a dazzling sophisticate who borrows more than the cufflinks from a Noel Coward character. It's a great deal of fun, a mishmash of terrible jokes and brilliant subversion.
Fridays, Saturdays, 8 & 10:30 p.m. Starts: Dec. 4. Continues through Dec. 12, 2009
