Poetry in Motion

When most people think of ballet, they picture an incredibly traditional -- albeit beautiful -- rendition of Swan Lake, or some similar delicate vision. While conventional ballet certainly has its place, the Missouri Ballet Theatre defies the art's conservative forms, creating its own sub-genre with Concepts II: Feel the Vibe-Poetry in Motion. In this piece, the dancers share the stage with singer-songwriter Benita Hill and her band while they interpret poetry and contemporary music through their movements. The Missouri Ballet Theatre presents Concepts II at the Edison Theatre (6445 Forsyth Boulevard; 314-935-6543 or edisontheatre.wustl.edu) at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday (March 9 and 10). Tickets are $15 to $22.
