Pumped Up

Now that Santa's sleigh has come and gone, the stalwart fire engine returns to its rightful place as the vehicle that most fascinates kids. And with the next week an open range of school-free days in need of activities, give the nippers what they crave with a quick visit to Pistons and Pumpers, the classic fire truck exhibition on display at the Museum of Transportation (3015 Barrett Station Road, Warson Woods; 314-965-6885 or www.transportmuseumassociation.org) through February. They'll marvel at the horse-drawn ladder wagon, "oooh" over the 1947 Seagrave Aerial Quint ladder truck and "aaah" at the 1922 American LaFrance fire truck. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday, and admission is $4 to $6.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Dec. 26. Continues through Feb. 1, 2009
